Dental Clinic: A Calm and Innovative Healthcare Space

Sabrab Miguel Barbas Creates a Unique Dental Clinic in Lisbon

The inspiration for this project came from a skylight that floods the natural light of Lisbon, turning the main area into a calm and interactive reception. The goal was to create spaces that provide a feeling of tranquility while patients wait to be attended to. The use of natural light not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also contributes to a sense of well-being.

One of the standout features of this dental clinic is that it is developed on just one floor. The entrance to the clinic and offices is made through the main access of the building, with a separation of routes for each of the spaces. The clinic area includes a waiting and service room located on the main front of the building, along with a skylight that floods the central area with natural light. Other spaces in the clinic include dental offices, sterilization room, orthopantomography room, and administrative offices.

The design of the clinic emphasizes the use of glass, allowing for the penetration of natural light and creating a spacious and airy ambiance. The separation of dental offices and circulation areas is also made with transparent glass, further enhancing the flow of natural light throughout the space. This not only reduces the need for artificial lighting but also creates a more pleasant environment for both patients and staff.

In addition to the clinic area, the design also incorporates office spaces, including meeting rooms and administrative offices. The office space is characterized by a more technical image, with the integration of electricity and air conditioning infrastructures as part of the architectural solution. Color notes are also used to differentiate work areas, adding a touch of vibrancy to the overall design.

The design team, led by Sabrab Miguel Barbas, faced several challenges in creating this innovative dental clinic. One of the main challenges was to utilize sunlight in the dental areas, ensuring that patients feel comfortable and at ease during their treatments. Another challenge was to create multiple waiting rooms with different environments, ranging from relaxed areas to interactive spaces with games integrated into the furniture.

The result is a dental clinic that not only provides top-quality dental care but also offers a unique and calming experience for patients. The combination of natural light, spaciousness, and innovative design elements creates a sense of tranquility and well-being. Patients are greeted with a large waiting room that reduces stress and provides a lounge-like atmosphere. The skylight flooding the central area with natural light adds to the overall sense of calm and relaxation.

This dental clinic, designed by Sabrab Miguel Barbas, is a true testament to the power of design in healthcare spaces. It has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021 for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
